The General Dynamics European Land Systems website lists the SK-105 as one of its products. Whats even more interesting is that they list they list a mortar carrier and armored personnel carrier as variants of this vehicle. I'm still looking for the APC version out of nothing but pure curiosity. As a vehicle for airborne forces though it intrigues. Lighter than the Stryker MGS system with a gun that works it can be loaded onto a C-130 without waiver. More info to come.

It may be in the catalog but this is a very old design, I believe out of production for years.
ReplyDeleteThe Austrians modified their Saurer 4K 4FA APC chassis and then put an AMX-13/105 turret on it as a tank destroyer.
The French had up gunned their AMX-13s from 75mm firing AP to the same gun bored out to 90mm firing HEAT and then to a down loaded 105mm firing their special OBUS G HEAT ammunition. The 105mm was supposedly too much recoil for the light chassis so, IIRC, the French gave it up but it had some export success. The Austrians took the turret, put it on their own chassis and called it a day. I think a couple other designs looked at using the turret but didn't make it into production.
Yep, built off of the Saurer Schutzenpanzer. It is strictly a battlefield taxi and is outclassed by any modern APC.
ReplyDeleteBut for something that could roll down a C-130's ramp with a heavily armed squad or air-dropped, it could be an interesting air assault vehicle.
They are quite fast considering their age and are very low (2.1m)

Two APC versions exist.
