Note: This is just a primer on a much bigger post coming this weekend (probably Sunday). It looks like BAE S. Africa is building on the RG35 and developing not only a Recce Version (the type that competed in Canada) but also a Motorised Infantry Vehicle and a larger (6 wheeled) Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Additionally the vehicle will be able to accommodate large caliber cannons (from images up to about 90mm). Come back later for more.
A while back I had gone to the now defunct BAE-Mahindra Defence Joint Venture to see their new upgraded Cassiper MRAP vehicle. Pretty good stuff. The original creator of the V Shaped Cassiper now works for General Dynamics-Force Protection now. He presented a project here which I also had the luxury of attenting. He was trying to develop some gell/resin type material to put on the bottom of the V Hull and to put of mini pipes or tubules(think medical syringes) of varying sizes on the V-Hull so that more shock (gell/resin) can be absorbed and more blast/force can be channeled thorugh the tubes away from the vehicle. If there ever was a definition of a mad scientist....it was him. Also responsible for some of the worlds largest De-Mining operations.
ReplyDeleteHave you heard what the weights would be?
ReplyDeleteFrom the technical data this vehicle seems very compact ,it would be interesting to compare it to US MRAPS in terms of size and protection levels.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like th son of the Ratel.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the south African army won't buy it
