Russians are ready to build the Mistral. Which one?
Ria Novosti is reporting that the Russians are ready to build Mistral class vessels. Read it here. My question is ...Which one? I never realized but in the video above, the Mistral comes in 4 different classes. From a small 16000 tons to a large 21000 tons version.
In the end it really makes little difference, but the implications are clear. The Russians are trying to get into the power projection game and they seek to have the ability to have a sustainable presence whenever they decide to project that power.
The Russian military has a powerful airborne force which makes this move even more telling. Sustainable power arrives by sea...not by air. We should remember that fact.

The Russians are playing one very old game for them: they're shaking the grass to rattle the snakes. New 5th gen fighter, invisible attack helo, new tank, new ships, new everything. Meanwhile they go to war with old T-72 and T-62 against Georgia. It's like a giant with feet of clay that is trying to scare everyone with a giant club that can strike only once. Right now, the Russian are showing a strenght that they don't have right now. Half of their current inventory, at least, needs fast and total overhaul while the other half can be sent to the scrapyard. They have a huge potential but it will take some time until they will use to the max.
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly that I am always talking about ,Alex
ReplyDeleteRussia will build only (21000 tons)4 new Mistral's! That was announced officially more than once!
ReplyDelete@Alex
Russia has only T-90 tanks in S. Ossetia & Abkhazia now and new BMP's also...
Mistral(21000 tons) can be built in less than 3 years by French and under 4 years in Russia(French estimate).
(If signed contract) Russia can have by 2013 their 1st Mistral.
In underestimating you are the strongest, no wonder you are losing the wars...
What the Fuck are you talking about?
