Kel-Tec PMR 30. Hitting store shelves soon?

I despise made up "must have" items.  I have a second gen I-pod that I waited to buy and refuse to upgrade as long as this one works.

I make an exception when it comes to firearms though.  Just like not having enough money or being handsome enough, you can't have enough guns.  I want this gun!  This comment was made in a previous post on the SMG version of this weapon (its theoretical so don't expect that one anytime soon).
Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Kel-Tec PMR 30 SMG Prototype.":

finally got the skinny on when the pmr-30 will hit stores. my ffl said he ordered five and they told him they will definatly fill his order (that means to his door step ), by june 25th.So i should be shooting my pmr-30 the 26th at the latest...
OOOH  I hope he's right.

I wonder if there's a waiting list?  I better start calling my FFL buddies today....got to get in the line!

  1. This pistol looks remarkably similar to the '90s era Grendel P30 pistol (same basic design, it seems) and R31 carbine. I used to own both of those blowback operated .22 WMR firearms. Too bad I got sick and badly needed some quick money... :-(

  2. good eye and great grasp of firearms history. supposedly the same guy that designed the Grendel P30 designed this one.

the only thing lacking in my opinion is it not being offered in the 22lr.

if they did that then it would be perfect.

  3. Solomon,

No, for .22 Long Rifle the perfect pistol and carbine combination is the Browning Buck Mark. I also had those. The rifle / carbine was really sweet when fitted with an electronic red dot sight. I sold that to a friend (again, while I was ill) and his grandchildren loved it. I imagine they went through many watch batteries along with whole bricks of .22 LR ammo.

  4. i'm just not a fan of Browning products. just a difference in taste i guess.

  5. Looks like Kel Tec wasn't exactly truthful about the delivery date! No stores in the US have any in stock on June 30.

  6. yeah that sucks. but they're still pumping out the advertising on it.

have you seen the latest issue of tactical-life? they even have a guy that test fired the SMG in addition to the pistol...a couple of vids are up too.

  7. I cannot get ahold of one and it is july 24th!! No one in this area ( southeast Ohio ) can get their mitts on one, and I want one BAD! The gun shops are telling me that they aren't available YET!! Does anyone know if they are available anywhere else in the nation? Let me know please!!!

  8. Get in line at Able Ammo

  9. I own four kel-tec's already, but as an avid hiker, I'm really jonesing for one of these. The balance of size, power and rounds is just perfect. Add in the ability for a red-dot and a tac rail light, and it's amazing. Can't wait. Wish they would ship already

  10. any idea on whats causing the delay????

i usually buy through impact and they don't have them.

  11. There is something funny going on with this PMR-30. Kel-Tec is so tight lipped on it . I think the story is just this--They have shipped 40 guns so far. That is it One guy said 1 gun for each Dist. He talked with 2 of them and they said the guns were not for sale, like is was just a sample for the sales people to show around. 3 of the 40 has been up on auction one went for 680.00 1 goes off tonight is up to 650.00 one has 5 days to go. This release of the PMR-30 so far has been a LOT OF BS, a big turn off for me

  13. I spoke with my distributor yesterday . We have 4 on order. Sorry ladies and gents but mid November seems to be the date for shipping a fair amount of these pistols.

  14. i will wait until the "iphone gotta have it craze" dies down. also they need to do some work with the ammo to get the pressures into the short barrel range so the JHP will expand on impact.Rifle ammo in a short barrel is not expanding and acts like ball ammo. i do understand the design of the gas /blowback system and that the fluting helps keep the pressue on the outside of the cartridge equal so there is no blow out but i really want to see a new ammo for this gun. would be nice to unload 30 of these into a criminal if needed. bet it would sting a little.

    ReplyDelete
  15. yeah its a crapper , there is no "we are gonna have these things out on this date" seams as hard up as every one is for cash and bussniess needing cash they should do better marketing, but thats just my opnion.

  16. have reserved the first one through the doors of a local shop... Has anyone thought that maybe there are legal issues due to the capacity of this little powerhouse?

  17. Shouldn't be, look at the FN 5.7

    ReplyDelete
  18. at the price there selling on gun broker get a fn5.7 and enjoy yourself until things cool down...

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've had one on order -prepaid- since Aug 4th.
I was at a local gun show today and the scuttlebutt there was, and this was supposedly via a Kel-Tec rep, that the WMR ammo was not tested on the hybrid blowback/locking breech design - if you can believe that - and that Kel-Tec can't get it to work consistently and will probably be withdrawing the gun from the market.

Now a lot of things are said at gun shows by resellers, as we all know, and this particular reseller was trying to get me to buy a FN 5.7 so take it what its worth but I found his interesting.

  20. THAT'S HUGE IF ITS TRUE!

wow...if that ends up being the case then this will be the biggest official cluster in US firearms history.

  21. This was posted by KT on facebook..... I guess the PMR will be fully released in OCT 2010...............

Kel-Tec Ok folks, since this question is being asked relentlessly I'll address it.

No, we are not at full production on PMR-30s. It has nothing to do with the product but more with the time line we set to release the PMR-30.

Back in January we ann...ounced that Q2 was the release date. It was based on estimated time to move from prototype to full production. What we had in January was a working model, but was not made on production CNC machines.

Our estimation proved to be quite off in terms of development. We noticed it before release but felt if we really pushed ourselves we could meet the Q2 release. The first batch of 80 or so, were done by that deadline, but had not been tested extensively (as we do with any first production run). After testing we found some inconsistencies in the CNC work and did some re-tweaking to fix it.

Since that first batch we've sent several other batches out, each with it's own new little fix. All of the fire arms that have been sent out work, but in the course of production we've found little adjustments here and there that are improvements.

In all honesty this is stuff that should have been going on before release.

What should have happened (because hindsight is 20/20) was that we push back that official release date until October at the earliest.

Basically we underestimated the time it would take us to get these badboys into full production.

So we had a choice: either stop production completely and just wait until a later date (angering those that were told July as a release date) or release smaller batches so the guns can at least see the light of day as production catches up (also angering customers as they see guns coming out but can't seem to get one). Obviously
we chose the latter (the right choice? this remains to be seen). The PMR-30s going out now are in working condition, but we've made that they may want to upgrade to, depending on serial number.

These parts will of course be free.

One thing we've discovered since shipping is that the PMR-30 does NOT like ammunition made in the Philippines (Armscor/Fiocci). The brass is weak and blows out.

So in conclusion: We are still making and shipping PMR-30s while production can get on track. They are still in small batches (30-70) and we are waiting on various redesigned parts to come back from heat treatment so we can start producing them in larger quantities.

Simply put we jumped the gun a bit on release (no pun intended), we acknowledge it, accept it, and are doing everything in our power to get things moving. In the meantime we are still sending out PMR-30s in small batches as we make them.

I hope this clarifies some things. My suggestion is to just pretend as if we set a release date for sometime in October and if you happen to come across a PMR-30 then it will be a pleasant surprise.

I will be happy to answer any additional questions that I can.

  22. I guess I will just stay with my AMT Automag II for now. AMT had the same problems that KelTec is having with the .22WMR cartridge. Mine (Automag II)works best with Winchester although does well with CCI too.

  23. I was at a gun show in VA last weekend and was asking around about it. One dealer said they had gotten (and sold) one. Nobody else had gotten any.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My FFL buddy, who is a large volume dealer, got one about three weeks ago. He already had it promised to another customer, who is also a friend of mine. My FFL said the distributor, who I believe was RSR in the D/FW area, told him they were alotted one PMR-30. I haven't seen the guy who actually bought the gun to ask him how he likes it.

  25. I purchased a pmr 30 (serial #89) aug. 15th in Kansas City and am able to put all 30 rounds through it with out any problems. It is a cool gun. You will not be dissapointed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i believe you Mark but what the fuck is wrong with Kel-Tec?????

this was suppose to be a summertime purchase and now i don't believe it'll be available until next year.

they've totally fucked up this product introduction...oh and what parts are they giving you because of the "redesign"????

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi Solomon,
Sorry its taken me so long to get back. So far I have had zero problems and have put about 500 rounds through it. I also have heard/read that the delay was due to feeding problems etc.. After reading your last post I called Kel Tec service and asked about any "recalls" or swap out parts I should be aware of due to any redesign issues. I was told by Kel Tec that no such feeding/redesign problems exist. I am also very curious as to why the PMR-30 is so difficult to find. My eyes popped out of my head when I saw the one I purchased just sitting in the gun store. I have not heard of any others in the Kansas City area.

  28. How much are these babies going to sell for? I think I need one.

    ReplyDelete
  29. To Patmans question:
The PMR-30 has a msrp of around $425. However, I have seen them being sold/advertised on the web as well as have read comments by people that they have heard of it going for as much as $650 to $800.I got lucky finding one just laying in a gun store (price on it was $425) and also got lucky on the rate. The store owner said "sell it to you for $360". hadn't even negotiated with him. He said due to the new design most of the older "hard core" hand gun folks in the area are skeptical and haven't wanted to take the risk. Kansas City is a very conservative area and he couldn't move it. So, although the pmr-30 is notorious for being hard to find and being sold at crazy prices, I got real lucky and found one at a great price. I have now put at least 700 rounds through it with no problem at all, well almost. I did have some problems when I was using a lower power ammo.I have bought several different types of ammo to see what feels best. I bought 50 rounds of Winchester Dynapoint 45 grain and started having stove pipe jams as well as a some very noticeable problem feeds.I reloaded after 15 rounds of that with CCI Maxi Mag and similar ammo. and have had no problems since. After that I looked at the manual and it advised against the dynapoint. Even though its 45 grains I guess the powder doesn't burn properly for the gun. Could someone explain how that works to me please? Im not too educated on how 45 grains in one brand can be low power when 40 grains of another is considered high power (even the winchester magnum 40 grain works fine??? any input is greatly appreciated thanks in advance). I will ask the dealer what he has heard and if he can get more of them. Hope this helps!

  30. I've gotten tired of waiting and bought FN 5.7

    ReplyDelete
  31. To Mark:
The 40 or 45 grains you are referring to is the bullet weight and has very little to do with the power the spent round imparts on the slide or bolt to work the action.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks!! I was under the impression that it was the amount of powder used. Thanks again, that clears up a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  33. WOW! That FN 5.7 is cool! I think im obsessed. How do you like it? I imagine it is flawless?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've had serious problems Winchester Dynapoint .22 long rifle in my GSG-5. It jams almost every round. CCI no problems. I'll have to use it my .22 revolver.

My friend has the 5.7 and it's so light and has a snappy recoil. I'm use to heavy steel pistols so it reminds of an airsoft, but a wicked awesome one. I want to get a PMR-30 and try them side by side.

  35. I test fired one in July and it worked well. So did Oleg Volk. The delay was in tooling from prototype to mass mfr is all.

You should never take advice from "some dealer" at a show.

  36. My girlfriend found the pmr30 online for $295.00 she ordered it on 8/14 but we still haven't received it...

I've had one on order since March...it just arrived today, got it home too late to take out to my range. They are shipping...a box, 2 mags, lock, and the PMR for $329.
All of the comments about ammo make sense, if you think about it. Every gun I own has a type of ammo it just doesn't like (except my 870 and my 10/22 which loves all)...my Ruger Mk2 is downright finicky, but lives well on CCI. Those all lead Dynapoints and other ecomony types are at home in most revolvers and lever & bolt action rifles. Most semi-autos, whether rifle or pistol have a preferred ammo/load. It up to us to put these things to the test and find that ammo. I'll let you know what mine likes someday soon.

  39. I just picked up a PMR-30 today and its really cool. although i dont really like the look of it. It is incredibly light. if you are looking for one, i would say the wait is worth the reward, it is a fine piece

  40. Got mine today. Shot 140 rounds thru it, CCI, Winchester 34gr, Hornady 30gr balistic point, and even danapoint. Only one FTFire, likey related to the round, not the gun. Wicked fast, fairly accurate. Got alot of attention with 25+ rounds fired off submachine style. Love it. Paid $355 for it.

  41. Paid for mine in June for $329, got it Tuesday 10/26/10. It was a hard wait but worth it.

  43. Bought mine two weeks ago in NE FL for 375.00 dealer has sold a total of 4. I have shot 4 or 5 hundred rnds with zero problems. It is a little tough loading thirty rounds so I have settled for just putting twenty five in the mag. Breakdown and cleaning is easy!
Love this gun and will be getting two more when the price drops. I will remember local gun stores gouging the customer when the price drops!

  44. Hello all! Anyone have an idea how much I should pay/offer for a used but good condition Colt Gold Cup .45 mark 4 adj. trigger stainless with walnut grip? Any advice would be a great help. I imagine it is a late 80's model. Thank you!!! P.S. still have had zero probs. with the PMR. just the Dyna Point and some other off brand ammo. It loves the CCI though.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Someone left a post after mine on 9/28 and mentioned no trouble with the Dynapoints, so, I grabbed a box of every type of .22mag I could find. 3 different CCI's, 3 Winchesters (100 rnds of dynapoint), 2 Federals (HP & Solid), & a couple boxes of Hornady 30gr V-max. 800 rounds total... All performed flawlessly, and I take back my prior (9/28)comment about the Dynapoints, they worked fine! ...the only FTF's came from improper loading of the magazines, which is unfortunately somewhat tedious. The spring pressure after about 12-15 rounds combined with the small cartridge, makes it tough to apply "leverage"...Even worse, it is possible to load in a dozen rounds correctly, then seat the next round improperly, then follow it up with a dozen more rounds loaded correctly. You'll eventually find the FTF. I would advise loading the magazines with an even number of rounds. If loaded with an odd number of rounds, the top round seems to have more movement and can easily be bumped to a non-feeding position when changing the mags...Also, the tip in the manual about tapping the back of the magazine every 3-4 rounds, to seat those rounds, is probably the cure for the mis-loaded rounds.
Too bad there isn't a way to remove the mag bottom, pour in the 30 rounds, then push the cap back on...still looking for some non-clad lead ammo to try, just to see if they work.
Other than being damn tough to load the 30 rounds, this pistol has lived up to all hype!
So far I like the Winchester white box jhp's...they burn clean in the pistol, are very accurate, and @ $9/box at Wallyworld, it's reasonable entertainment.

i have waited since last fall for a PMR30 in the Houston area. I had ordered 2 with my local dealer but he sold them on Gun Broker as soon as they arrived.
I haven't fired it yet but after watching the kel Tec video twice I have loaded the clips.
Paid $429 for the first one located.

  47. Quality control is not good for Kel Tek. Crappy triggers. They make good, but you are dead.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Does anyone have a guesstimate when the PMR-30 will be back in stock?

    ReplyDelete
  49. i've given up on this weapon.

it had the right buzz, it hit me in the right spot because of the preparedness craze but they just haven't executed the roll out the right way.

i'm not a fan of the 22 magnum but for the capacity held in one mag, i'd learn to love it...but then...you can't find the darn thing and when you do they want an arm and a leg!

    I GIVE UP!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't think they are even through with the prototype. Made a few and sold them so consumers could do there testing for them. Now they have to retool to fix problems found by consumers. I would be very leary of buying from Kel Tec...at least this pistol.

  52. 2/11/11 i was introduced to the PMR-30 via my dad through one of his hunting magazines...i do a lot of hiking, camping, fishing, etc. quite a bit and have encountered some others that just plain made me nervous...this pistol looks like it would do the trick for protection...i have seen web sites that show a selling prices of $291 - $350 but are out of stock...any ideas of when this item will be readily avaliable?

    ReplyDelete
  53. no idea.

Kel-Tec is burning it up when it comes to innovation but production from those guys plain suck.

if you can find it, it'll cost you about twice as much as listed.

    good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Seems most of their time is spent devloping new weapons. They should sell the rights to build these weapons with someone that has the capacity to produce. I waited forever, orders in with 6 or more dealers...finally gunbrokered it...fun pistol, accurate, no problems with jams with good ammo. I paid 599.00 for mine, but it was that or wait forever.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Highest price I have seen was 699.00 at shooters in Jacksonville Fl, I hope thieves like that burn in hell. Remember them next time you need something and go elsewhere!

    ReplyDelete
  56. ok...so what's the deal here, it's been over a year now since this thing was introduced and still no word on when it will up for sale at a reseanable price...it's not like it's some kind of secret weapon just unearthed from some old bunker somewhere...near $700 is truely highway robbery...do you know if concern for these extra long clips and the 30 round capacity might be the tie up ?

    ReplyDelete
  57. so it sounds to me like the anonymous guy should burn in hell to since he is puttin his on gun broker for 600.00 just like all the other crooks

    ReplyDelete
  58. Kel Tech has used all it's excuses it had, they are just plain piss poor liars, who are incapable of keeping a promise to there customers! They will tell you they don't control the middlemen but it was no ones fault but there own for putting a product out before it was ready (mine was a jammomattic and had to be returned) and capable of producing enough units to keep thieves (retailers) stealing from the loyal customers
