For the Israelis, the advanced version of the F-15 Eagle has been seen as an alternative to the ill-starred F-35 for some time, both in terms of delivery schedule and cost.One last thing. If you think that you can buy a Silent Eagle for the same price as a legacy F-15K then someone in Israel is smoking crack.
Boeing unveiled the Silent Eagle in March, about the same time the Department of Defense announced the F-35 program's problems.
It will reportedly cost around $100 million per plane, which conforms with the ceiling the Israelis have put on acquiring a fifth-generation fighter.The new F-15 configuration reportedly includes a stealth capability but that's only effective in evading the radars carried by hostile aircraft but not by ground-based radar systems.
Other improvements include adapting the F-15's conformal fuel tanks to carry weapons inside the fuselage rather than externally, thus reducing the radar signature.
One of the functions tested during the F-15 Silent Eagle's weekend flight was opening and closing its left side conformal weapons bay that contained an AIM-120 air-to-air missile, which wasn't fired.
Why are you implying that Israel doesn't want to buy an American-made plane? Both candidates are made in the USA. As for the price, we have to live within a budget. If our air force says it needs a certain number of planes, and we only have X amount of money to spend, than we have to consider how much each plane costs. When Israel first expressed interest in purchasing the F35, it was supposed to cost $35M. Maybe the Silent Eagle is better for our security. Perhaps the whole stealth thing is not so important for the IAF. If we decide to buy another American fighter, why would you get so upset? We didn't sign a contract, and the conditions of the sale have changed. As for fitting our own electronics and missiles, that's pretty important for us. We feel that ours are better and more suited to our style of combat, just as you feel that way about yours. It's only natural.

i've been one of the biggest supporters of Israel and i believe that many Muslims are our mortal enemies but the arrogance coming from that country is becoming tiresome.
if you no longer need our assistance then fine. carry your ass and call us the next time Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the nut jobs in the Middle East are rushing tank battalions toward Jerusalem.
either way, make a choice and spare us the bullshit.
As Disraeli said, countries don't have friends, they have interests. If we have to take our time to make up our minds how we are going to spend $30b or so for a new fighter that is vital for our security, than that is what we will do. In the end, the USA will sell Israel the planes that Israel feels best suits its needs. There aren't any "leaks" and I'm sorry if you feel that deliberations over a deal this large and important - to us, anyway - is arrogance. This is the defense business. Nothing happens overnight. You, of all people, should know that.

The Israeli will settle on a decision that that best serve its tactical and strategic requirements. It's as simple as that.
For some, fighter competition and selection these days is first and foremost a political and industrial decision. For the Israeli, it's primary a tactical and budgetary consideration.
