CH-53D Sea Stallion (BuNo 157736) of
HMH-363 "Lucky Red Lions" arriving at West Wetlands park in Yuma,
Arizona during a noncombatant evacuation drill supported by MAWTS-1 as
part of Weapons and Tactics Instructor course 2-10.
Good question. I remember the HMH down the flightline getting brand new ones back in the early to mid 90's at MCAS Futenma. They arrived via C-5 and it looked like a really tight fit. The rotor heads were not on, and the power/transmission section may have been removed too. Although honestly I think it would be the width of the C-17 would be the issue.
Sol, does the CH53 fit into a C17 or would it need a C5 to move to theatre, apart from sailing of course!
