I spent 5 years out in Okinawa. This is what the 31 MEU does. It's out there to float around WESTPAC and show the flag. I doubt they're TEAP'd (or whatever it's called now) for anything big in the States. There are other parts of the Division that do serious exercises in Australia, jungle training in the Phillipines, go to the mainland and train at Fuji, etc. SOTG and the 1st SFG did all the sneaky stuff.
ReplyDeleteThis MEU was a sideshow when I was out there. Everything is really aimed at the DPRK, and now the Chinese of course, and in the past keeping an eye on the Soviets.
