The real impact of the slashing of the F-35 in the UK.

Have a look at this blog...
But it is understood only a third of the original planned order of 138 F-35s will now be bought, reducing Samlesbury’s workload.

Graham Jones, Labour MP for Hyndburn and Haslingden, said: “We were expecting cuts and this SDSR is a terrible decision by the Government.

“This means people at Samlesbury will be made unemployed and it will destroy our industrial base.”

  1. Hmmm, not entirely accurate. The parts being made at Samlesbury are parts BAE is manufacturing (in this case the rear fuselage) for EVERY JSF to be produced, no matter what country. So while the cut will reduce the number they build by a few dozen, it won't put anything like all of their jobs at risk when they will still be building a couple of thousand of them over the next 10-15 years.

Sounds like scaremongering to me (not only an opposition MP - he's Labour, the Conservatives are in power, but also one who'll say anything to keep the defence industry happy since they are so important to his constituency).
