This is probably the most effective political commercial of this year. For any conservative, this is a kick in the balls...for a liberal its a lie...for American's its a future that we all fear. Well done.
The liberals I know just dismiss stuff like this as racist and xenophobic. To them anything that portrays non-whites in a negative light is racist and bad, so they just ignore it rather than think about it. This tends to blind them to many of the world's realities, but it makes them feel good about themselves and how progressive and anti-racist they are.
Self-esteem and real world knowledge are often inversely correlated like that.
want to know whats really funny about this film? this is exactly the way the Chinese view us and themselves. with that in mind ---- who is really xenophobic..racist...or nationalist in their viewpoint?
I agree. One of the funny things about liberals (at least the ones I know) is that they won't even criticize non-whites for being racist and xenophobic, the thing the liberals claim to be most against, seemingly no matter how blatant the racism is.
A silly little example, but last night's UFC heavyweight match-up was won by Cain Velasquez. Velasquez was born in Calif. and raised in Arizona, but identifies himself as a Mexican, not an American. His slogan is "Brown Pride" and in case that's not completely clear he has a giant "Brown Pride" tattoo that covers his entire chest. And his fans, who packed the arena in LA, were similarly sporting huge "Brown Pride" signs.
And yet this will be unremarked on in the news. UFC isn't up there with the NFL and NBA, but it's pretty damn big these days. You can imagine the uproar if it was a white guy with a giant "White Pride" tattoo and an arena full of people with "White Pride" signs. That's some pretty in your face racial sectarianism. UFC would, I assume, be forced to expel a "White Pride" fighter, but they proudly celebrate and market Velasquez as the great Mexican/Latino hero. It's an odd world.
Oh, and I'm from a mixed white-asian family and, yeah, my older asian immigrant relatives are comically and openly racist while my white relatives are terrified to ever talk about racial stuff in any way.
I find the funniest thing to be the fact that it (as Sol points out) reflects the reality of China's perception of America and the West in the modern day. Their entire governmental ethos is based around a fictional notion of cultural and racial superiority not dissimilar to that seen in Germany circa 1928 onwards. Thus the subjugation of Tibetian and Uygur minorities becomes an act of charity, the claiming of territory in foreign lands becomes birthright, the theft of Western technology is simply its 'return home' (since the Ancient Chinese apparently invented everything first and the White Devils stole it from them). For those of you who don't believe China uses economics as a tool of its long term strategic policy, I invite you to study in depth of how much investment they have made in debt bonds in the West. How much money they have spent keeping civil wars active and dictators in power in Africa, how many cheap weapons they have proliferated in the worlds poorest regions, the huge land grabs, mineral exploitation the list goes on.
To get a taste of how China intends to use this new found influence, look no further than its recent and ongoing bullying of Japan in the Senkaku Islands dispute. America will soon join that club if it isnt careful. Obama and his shills need to get their head out of the sand and start doing something. Simply believing in the 'goodness' of people is not diplomacy, its delusion.
