As President Nicolas Sarkozy prepares to use a historic London summit to
announce the use of RAF jets off the Charles de Gaulle, his naval chiefs
have told him she is no longer seaworthy.
"She's meant to be heading to Afghanistan to support the war there but is
instead in home port with a faulty propulsion system," said a French
Navy source.

Well you know, France might only have one carrier which might sometimes have defaults (she's now back to sea after a two week emergency repair) but with the UK she would have two and soon three, with good planes to put on top of them, and four Mistral class LHD (the third is now being completed and construction of the fourth soon to be begun, with the russian order soon to come and increase the production run). Also the French are curently working on the design of their future new CV(N?). France has more ships, more men, more planes, more diverse planes, more modern planes, better tanks, better submarines, better nuclear weapons, better everything than the british, and everithing cheaper than US made products. So for the UK to seek closer tie with France is a good idea, especially since many of their needs are similar and since they work as often (if not more) with France than with the US (if only because training with their neighboors cost them less than going on the other side of the Atlantic)

Bryaxis, back up any of what you said about French equipment being better than British gear, or cheaper than US stuff (Rafale selling well I see) and Sol, all ships have issues every now and then, the US is not exempt, it just happens to have more ships in total to spread the load over.
