The US Navy is sending the USS Iwo Jima to Haiti in preparation for a Hurricane.
Wasn't US military involvement in that island nation suppose to be over with back in March? If this is the new face of US military power then we need to get a drastic nip and tuck. But notice something even more insidious. NGO's are becoming an integral part of ships company now. This is the ships roster...
A crew of 1,600 military and civilian medical, engineering, aviation, logistical and other support personnel are embarked aboard Iwo Jima, including U.S. Navy engineers, a contingent of 500 Marines with logistical-support expertise, volunteers from the U.S. Public Health Service and various non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as medical, dental and engineering professionals from Europe, North America and South America.Read about it here....
I say no more money for Haiti until they agree to stop breeding like rabbits. They can't afford to feed, clothe, and house the people they already have. But they keep pumping out the kids and demanding the rest of the world give them free food, medical care, dental care, etc, etc.

Every couple of years Haiti has a crisis and we give them millions and millions. Enough.

wow Sgt_C...i wish that was more encouraging. hate to say it but bad stuff happens. time to stop letting it be a little bad and let them experience the full force. pain produces change and we keep letting Haiti avoid feeling the true pain of its actions. enough...time to go...and Germany can definitely take care of themselves...time to go from there too.

I agree, we should stop giving aid to Haiti. The earthquake was an act of god. But their systemic corruption and mismanagement of resources, is completely their doing.
ReplyDeleteHowever I do think that this mission highlights the need for more hospital/aid type ships. They would be cheaper to build (civilian standards are cheaper), operate, and maintain. As well as reducing wear and tear on combat vessels, and keeping them available in case of emergency.
The benefits of having more soft power missions would also be beneficial.
