Raw Video of 3/5 Kicking Taliban Ass...

Marines with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines have been fighting the Taliban throughout Afghanistan's Sangin Valley for three months. They experience enemy contact almost daily and have gained tremendous ground. In a recent operation, Marines and Afghan soldiers fought through an enemy ambush and built a new patrol base. Marines continue to work with Afghan security forces and Afghan government authorities in the area. Video by Cpl. Daniel Blatter

  1. Great shot of the UH-1Y letting it rip. Often overlooked that the 1Y can act as a gunship as well, especially in hot & high Afghanistan.

  2. Haven't been around the blog world much, but wanted to stop by. Thanks for the video (and I thank the Marines for their service).

I'm curious - by any chance did you get to see Restrepo on National Geographic. They weren't Marines, but damn, what a documentary. It was heart wrenching, yet the bravely that was displayed was amazing. My thanks go out to all who have served or are serving.

  3. Seen it. The really heart wrenching part was that the Korengal valley (and those army outposts) were abandoned later on.

  5. You're absolutely right, Marcase. I cried for a long time after watching it. And yes, Solomon, it is bitterly depressing but I feel it's something that civilians should watch. I only got bits of pieces of what happened in Iraq through the eyes of my brother and his fellow Marines (who have become my newly adopted family since my brother died).

Although my brother used to open up to me a lot about the things he went through in Iraq, there was a lot he never could tell, and I understand that. So I made it my duty to read as many blogs and books, and watch as many documentaries as I could to understand his PTSD. I've never been in the Armed Forces, and just because I come from a military family doesn't mean I will know all that goes on. All I can do is try to learn.

I hope to start reading you more often again. My apologies for that. Depression set in big time (and is still present) after my brother died, so I took my frustrations out at Fox News in the comment sections. Having it out with liberals who are clueless sheep has helped immensely! ;)

Hope you and your family are well.
