British SAS rescue civilians in Libya.

Thanks Marcase for the heads up and the article.  Via The Independent.

British special forces last night mounted a daring rescue of 150 civilians trapped in the Libyan desert.
As the security situation deteriorated, SAS troops were deployed to evacuate oil workers from several isolated desert camps south of Benghazi.
One senior source said: "It had been planned for a few days, covering an area four and half times the size of the UK." Landing strips near remote oilfields had to be secured, with stranded civilians collected from several sites. The rescue was ordered by David Cameron, who chaired a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee yesterday morning.
The British government has acted forcefully to secure its citizens in the wake of violence in a war torn country, the same cannot be said for the US.

  1. 70 years after Monty and Rommel, British and German special forces set foot in Libyan Desert and worked this time together.
At the same time two C-160 D Transall planes from the German Luftwaffe (air force) and several German parachute units [Luftlandebrigade 31 / Division Spezielle Operationen (DSO)] were also engaged in rescuing 133 EU citizens including 50 Germans.

    Einsatzbereit – Jederzeit – Weltweit!!!

  2. The desert south of Benghazi? I wonder if the SAS pulled out some of the maps they had of the area from WW2. The RAF had airstrips, actually flat spots of hard desert, all over that area.

The SAS blew up more German planes on the ground then the RAF shot out of the sky. Including driving a jeep unit into an airbase, shooting up the flight line, and then driving back out without losing a man.

  3. Apparently Special Forces teams were secretly prepositioned in Libya last week and were used to escort oil workers to secure locations whilst the Herc's were on the way.

I think the British media owe the govt. an apology for saying the response was too slow, turns out they'd thought ahead.

  4. further ahead than the US definitely.

Rangers, Special Forces, SEALs, Force Recon, USAF CCTs...i haven't read about any of our guys being over there.

and then the best we can do is to send a ferry?

i mean the freaking Turks can send warships...the Italians can send a couple of LHDs and we can only send a fucking ferry?

we look like little boys on this one.

  5. News agencies are reporting that the Chinese have managed to evacuate 30,000+ of their own.

Reminds me of the George Clooney movie "Up in the Air" - always follow the lead of asians.
