Lee sent me this factsheet on the Riverine Forces.
Simple question...why isn't a module being designed for the LCS for these forces? We talk about using Marines on those ships, we're even making room for Army Aviation, but this under utilized force seems to be ignored again. Use it or lose it. Time to get the Riverine Forces into the fight...whether against pirates or in the Pacific, its past time to get these forces involved.
Riverine Factsheet
ANSWER: The LCS boat "module" was designed to accomodate four 11 meter Navy Standard RHBs or NSW version. The RivRons do NOT use NS or NSW RHBs! Their boats are to tall or heavy to fit inside the LCS mission deck.
ReplyDeleteso once again the LCS shows it is a sub-optimal platform.
I belive that the RivRons ARE being used but for security reasons (or other)their missions are NOT being advertised. Much as NSW does not talk about its current jobs much.
P.S. CNO and other senior naval leaders have repeatedly said that COCOMs are asking fo the riverines and other NECC units. COCOMs ARE the ultimate definers of rqmts.
no offense leesea, but someone in the RivRons needs to get off their ass and start talking, bragging, banging on their chest shouting about what these guys are doing.
ReplyDeletea concept that goes under reported is deemed as non-essential.
i'll do my part to get the word out but someone has to at least tell me whats going on. a guy named Lee has been good about sending me info and i'm going to post more of it but put my addy out there so i can at least tell the story if they won't.
I modified my above comments as follows:
ReplyDeleteI knoww that the RivRons ARE being used, but for security reasons or perhaps a insular command, or just plain poor PAOs? RivRon missions are NOT being advertised. Similar to NSW which does not talk about its current jobs much.
Whether Milbloggers know what the RivRon sailors do does not matter as much as what the blue water sailors DON'T know they can do.
you're wrong there leesea.
ReplyDeletenobody knows exactly what Special Ops is doing because the mission is classified.
RivRons aren't.
they're conventional forces doing a conventional mission. there is absolutely no reason for the public, mil bloggers, other servicemen to know what they're doing and where they're going.
that kind of thinking is what gets Commands shut down.
Well our vets groups have been briefed by COMNECC and ComRivGru One and they refused to discuss any future mission areas. And not a lot was said about then current ops. As I understand it, that is SOP.
ReplyDeleteWell guess what leesea, like i said, thats why you won't see RIVRONs around much longer.
ReplyDeleteif thats the kind of attitude they have and i can get the mission set, deployment schedule etc of an MEU or Infantry Battalion then RIVRONs have no excused.
that sounds extremely arrogant to me...self serving...arrogant as hell.
