  1. that 65 million fly away costs is alot lower than what i have heard in the past, this is a surprisingly low number.

what do you think though about the low internal weapons load? only two air to air missiles sounds a bit low, i did hear LM was trying to increase this, what do you know?

  2. 1. The $65 million is for Recurring Flyaway of the Full Rate Production model.

    2. At IOC the F-35 (any model) can hold 4 internal AMRAAMs (two on the door stations and two on the A2G stations). LM and the Skunk Works has already done the studies on six internal AMRAAMs and have tentatively included that in the planned Blk 5 upgrades.

  3. so will they back upgrade the other blocks with the updated inner bombay or will operational commanders just know which figheters to use as air-to-air and others to have JDAMs?

  4. That depends on whether the change (for six AMRAAMs) required is a new set of launch rails structural changes that take longer it integrate.

btw, for four AMRAAMs it is a simple rail/ejector change in the A2G station to go from JDAM (or SDB, JSOW, etc) to AMRAAM.
