Air Force recovers stolen materials from Friday's raid - www.ktnv.com
Wow.
The FBI, US Marshals or ATF is more than capable of handling this type of investigation and recovery of military property. I wonder why the USAF decided it needed to operate off base...this might be perfectly legal but it sure sends the wrong message. Obviously the "powers that be" are either tone deaf, don't care or they're unaware of the alarm that this is causing.
People are on edge.
This isn't helping.

could there have been something sensitive they wanted to be able to recover? documents, classified manuals, etc?
ReplyDeletein my mind it doesn't matter. the FBI could easily have done this solo.
ReplyDeleteno reason at all to have the Air Force Office of Special Investigations operating in the lead role off a military reservation.
i don't know if this was a trial balloon. i don't know if they thought that people had been desensitized to the issue because of the TV show NCIS, but either way they've screwed up.
people are watching and people are not happy.
Despite the Hoover propaganda machine, the FBI is not the only game in town. Stolen AF property is well within AFOSI jurisdiction. Stolen military hardware, munitions, parts and restricted exports fall under the laws that AFOSI,ICE, ATF, and FBI enforce.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of overlapping authorities in this type of criminal scheme. The appropriate agencies appear to be involved. This is not even close to posse comitatus. It's a criminal investigation--not a military operation. Secure the tin foil brother.
Roscoe.
ReplyDeleteI basically said as much in this post. I didn't just identify the FBI! I also mentioned the US Marshal's Service. I left out ICE but included the ATF.
Quite honestly, I doubt the professionalism of ICE and ATF. I do however have respect for the FBI and outright admiration for the US Marshal's (did training with those guys and they're as hard as woodpecker lips)
But the issue to me is this. Why did they need to include 4 agencies on this simple little recovery op?
FBI, ATF, US Marshal AND USAF Office of Investigation???? Seems like overkill on a massive scale.
If you think its tinfoil then I can only point to the abuses that I've seen committed against brother Marines. The guy in Arizona (forgive me I forgot his name) speaks volumes.
But lets look at this on a pure tactical level. If you're conducting a raid...have enough personnel to keep it in house, then why would you bring other units into it? In the Marines you wouldn't. Conservation of forces and all...Seems like in law enforcement its beyond overwhelming force.
This smacks of a publicity stunt. It also smells like a message is being sent.
