When the officer approached the vehicle, the man behind the wheel handed the officer his driver's license, insurance card and concealed carry permit.
The officer took all the documents, looked them over and said, "Mr. Murray, I see you have a CCP. Do you have any weapons with you?"
The driver replied, "Yes I do. I have a 357 handgun in a hip holster, a .45 in the glove box and a .22 derringer in my boot."
The officer looked at Mike and asked, "Anything else?"
"Yes. I have a Mossberg 500 12 gauge and an AR-15 in the trunk."
The officer asked if the man was driving to or from a shooting range and the man said he wasn't, so the officer bent over and looked into the driver's face and said "Mr. Murray, you're carrying quite a few guns. May I ask what you are afraid of?"
Mike locked eyes with the officer and calmly answered, "Not a friggin’ thing".
No one needs that many weapons with them at anytime.

ReplyDeleteHa! Love it! For us in Victoria, Australia it's not only illegal to carry firearms, but also knives and batons. Oh, and if you've done any kind of bite work with your dog you need to keep that secret too.
ReplyDeletewow. i'm sorry to hear that. want to know a dirty little secret here in the States? our violent crime rate is dropping drastically...even in the middle of a stubborn and persistent recession! the reason why? because gun ownership sky rocketed after Obama was elected because many were predicting another gun ban!
ReplyDeleteGood story. I know of a CC instructor who carries 4 weapons at all times, three firearms one bootknife. It's a bear to keep proficient in that many weapons unless you ARE a CC instructor.
ReplyDeleteIn another CC-related story, I just read another good article by Massad Ayoob in the Sept/Oct issue of the American Handgunner. Did you know that at least two of the people who restrained the animal that shot Representative Giffords and all those other people were carrying concealed weapons (Arizona allows such without permit now) and their actions prevented further bloodshed unitl the police showed up several minutes later?

don't know if you're joking or being serious but their is an exact correlation between gun ownership increasing and crime decreasing.
ReplyDeletethe macros of population are pretty much static because of illegal immigration into the country. by that i mean that the number of men (and men commit the majority of crime) has remained pretty much static...no decrease in the number of males in the prime crime committing age ranges...so it has to be because of increased gun ownership and probably because of the fact that thugs who commit violent acts are held in jail longer.

ReplyDeletei'm saying that the demographics of our society don't bear that out. besides, abortion is a tool used mostly by middle class women...not the poor. so long story short...i just don't buy it. these women are using abortion so that they don't have children at an inopportune time...not because they would not be cared for. the portion of society that would commit these types of crime are continuing to reproduce at traditional rates.
As further evidence compare crime rates in "gun free" urban areas to others without strict gun laws. Even when similar demographics.

Yes, there is a racial component--another conversation.
Denver county doesn't like to issue CCW permits. The city council has exercised a "home rule" exemption that allows them to limit magazine capacities (20) beyond state law. This is why I moved (and took my tax revenue) out of Denver county five years ago!
10 miles south of Denver, where I now live, in Douglas county, our sheriff is CCW friendly. There are no stupid gun laws.
There are no gangs of "youths." We don't suffer from violent crime.
Criminals are not stupid. To take another chapter out of Freakenomics; life is about incentives. A criminal commiting a violent crime in a "gun-free" zone has a different (greater) set of incentives. In my county, such a criminal risks his life. In Denver county a criminal does not, and because he has time to flee before DPD can show up, often times he will not even be caught.
