  3. all good sol, i always wonder if we had to take a defended beach what kind of landing craft we would use. i know we would make heavy use of helos and LCACs, but it seems we dont invest in small to medium landing craft like that anymore to deploy a large number of men and equipment, i know they are trying to correct this by ship-to-shore connectors and sea basing, but we will see. i fear at times we are relying too much on helos while shoulder fired stuff can easily take out helos and until we establish a beachhead and take some land they will be at risk, although we of course would have established air dominance in anything i can think of.

  4. The second craft is a Royal Marine LCVP MK5. They each deploy about a quarter of a marine company and can be carried on davits on HMS Ocean (LPH) or rear deployed from Albion or Bulwark (LPDs). Useful craft those.

What the first craft is is a little harder to work out, but I think it's an armoured rigid raider.

Royal Marines still regularly practice this kind of landing and seem to still use boats and hovercraft as much as Helos. Theres a pretty cool but silly video of a lot of the stuff they use here (from 4:42 in):
