Joe sent me an article by that prolific blogger, anti-Marine and part time mad man named Mike Sparks on his proposal for a return to sea planes. You can read it here, but what caught my eye was the Grumman 698. Little information is available and I wish Sweetman wasn't mad at me cause I'd love to know the history on this project.

My biggest complaint with Sparks are his abusively long and media-filled webpages. The dude seriously needs to look up the term "next page" ;)
ReplyDeletesorry Sol, didnt mean to be anti-marine corps or anything, i just thought the concept was interesting, i hope it wasnt taken the wrong way.
ReplyDeletenaw joe, you weren't. Sparks is an interesting guy. i wish i could talk to him.
ReplyDeletesome of his ideas seemed crazy but were spot on. Spudman has it right though. the guy beat you over the head with pages that stretched from here to eternity.
yeah, that page was painful, lol, i rather have him have a table of contents and say OK if you want WWII planes, go here, modern stuff, here :D. and i must admit, some of the craziest ideas in history have been some of the best when implemented properly! :)
ReplyDeleteHere's what the Grumman 698 looks like today (http://www.flickr.com/photos/blafetra/8595887169/). I don't think it ever got beyond this wind tunnel model that is now in storage, covered in bird droppings, at NASA Ames Research Center.
