So the USMC has adopted the Serpa Holster.
I have no problem with the idea from a safety standpoint like some of the detractors. What I have an issue with is the actual utility of the thing.
Its not a safety issue. No its a protection issue, a running, crawling, moving through the bush, banging against walls jumping through windows kinda issue.
The Serpa doesn't protect your firearm, it won't keep a tender thing like the Beretta protected and when you're down to a side arm then you're in a bad place.
Marine Corps procurement gone wrong exhibit one. Buying the Serpa Holster.
Yep, the ole' M12 ain't stylish, cutting edge etc...but what it is is a tool thats designed to protect another tool. It passes the eyeball test for Shock Troops...not barbie dolls playing dress up.

While I agree on the serpah was a horrible choice, I beloved from a saftey issue its just plain wrong, its safteu paddle gets fouled so easy.
ReplyDeleteNo a safari land would of been a much wiser choice. It's what I've been using for years and has never failed
i can go with a personal purchase of an alternate holster but to go Marine Corps wide was a mistake.
ReplyDeletequestion though. can you jump and rappel with those holsters? i'm surprised a HRST Master would let you on the rope with one.
Mine is jumpable and I've fast rope with it. It's lvl 3 retention with a add on cover you simple slip on when you do jump operations.
ReplyDeleteI understand using issue gear, but I've got my fair share of gear I bought thats much better and more reliable then my cif issue. It's rough sometimes to look at my sister serviced and the kit they are issued.

ReplyDeleteThis is what I use.
ok, i like it but you're in ANGLICO right? what about for the grunts rooting around for weeks in the dirt? the M12 provides all around protection and is even somewhat padded to provide additional protection. even with your safariland your pistol is gonna be in a bad way with dirt and grime....alot worse shape than if you're wearing an M12.
ReplyDeleteNever had a problem with it and I was with tracks as provisional infantry, and with my ett. Then again I taught growing up horse gun man so I always took care of my track(or when foot mobile, my feet and pack) my rifle and pistol and then finally myself. The m12 is nice my dad had it.
ReplyDeleteSide note, I really enjoy my holsters ability to transfer from my drop holster to my dashboard of my humvee which was just Awsome.
Yep, a big fan of Safari-land holsters. Been using them operationally for 12 years now, and they've never let me down. Our tactical teams which have the choice of anything they want still use them and they have plenty of time in the mud and dirt too.
ReplyDeleteJust a good bit of kit all-round, with no downside I've ever found. They're not even that expensive either. Here's the Beretta model:
