Best Sci-Fi book for Marines...

The Legacy and Inheritance trilogies by Ian Douglas are hard to beat when you're talking about the best Sci-Fi in general and in particular for Marines.

The author Ian Douglas is a former Navy Corpsman and its obvious from his writing that he spent almost his entire time with the green side...

Most sci-fi writers attempt to recreate a new universe, villains etc...Ian does that but what will appeal to the readers is his sticking with units that are familiar to all Marines.  MEU's?  Oh he does that but on an enter galactic level.  Rules of Engagement?  He talks about that issue but in regards to first contact with alien species.

Its a thrill ride and I don't think you'll be disappointed.  Check it out for yourself on Amazon here.

  1. I liked the legacy series..thought the scenario was very realistic and possible, save the alien stuff the whole series really makes for a good read. As for.the inheritance series....eh ok liked them but not as much as the legacy.

  2. Feels like Military SF week on the web. I've noticed some Military SF polls and comments out this week, and the most popular books listed seem to be the ones I'm already familiar with, but this is new to me. Thanks, I'll check this out.

You might also like John Ringo's "Dreen War" series with 'Space Marines' at the center of the story. Good introduction to the series and in particular the character 'Two Gun Berg' here: http://www.baenebooks.com/chapters/1416521291/1416521291___2.htm.
Ringo's co-author is a physicist so there's some 'string theory' stuff that kind of drags things down in places for me (not a big fan of string theory or theorists), but the story and action rocks.

  3. thanks...i will check it out.

different subject and i've wanted to ask you.

whats going on with the AF? i'm hearing that SOCOM put out a request for Navy helos to be committed to support, they're junking a bunch of cargo planes....are they being marginalized?

i mean i don't hear a thing about AF Special Ops wing (maybe as it should be but they're really low profile as of late)...of all the planes to junk why did they choose the C-27 especially considering the optics of it when the Army wanted the mission and with the Navy getting into the SOCOM support mission is the AF being forced out? i mean seriously...CCT, Combat Weather and PJ's are all skill sets found elsewhere....is your old service feeling the heat or just retooling for a new day?

  4. Sorry I didn't see your questions right away. Been stomping on CAS Myths at DoDBuzz.
I made my comments on the C-27 'issue' on one of your posts a couple of days ago, The rest? At the root of things, I'm hoping this turns into a near-term exercise until we can get the political change we need in November, and I think pretty much all of the churn is being driven by the latest so-called and dumbed-down National Security Strategy. Have you read it? Thin on substance heavy on platitudes, but 'they' tell us that it means we'll not be doing the Major War/Major Contingency thing anymore. One 'kinda-hard' thing at a time is all we're going to prepare for now. Makes one miss the "Win-Hold-Win" disarmament plan.
