BAE's Brimstone, Hellfire, Maverick and maybe gunship killer.

APKWS is the biggest threat to the dedicated helicopter gunship in a generation.  Precision missiles can now be launched off utility aircraft.

Multi-role aircraft can now enter the rotary world.

A UH-1Y can go back to the future.  When the Huey was first deployed it operated as a troop transport, ambulance, command and control platform and gunship.

Now the Marine Corps can do it again.

Let's not even talk about what Navy MH-60's can do know that they're sporting the US Army's stub wing arrangement on their aircraft.

More targets can be hit at a reduced payload penalty meaning better performance.

I like it.

  1. Imagine all of the potential aircraft this weapon system opens up to becoming armed. Not only can smaller class UAV's gain a valuable strike ability, but light civilian aircraft could be easily modified as well (which would be right up USAF Spec Ops alley). Hell, you could arm a freaking Cessna 150 with two of these (if you really wanted to). This weapon system could make deniable air operations in Africa ALOT more under the radar than they already are.

  3. Haven't the Iraqi Air Force been using US supplied Cessna Combat Caravans equipped with a pair of Hellfires for several years?

With Brimstone, Hellfire and guided rockets the potential for small UAV's and aircraft is massive

Have a look at the Thales Lightweight Multirole Missile as well
