So, is this supposed to be for the 20mm external cannon? I'd imagine they could put just about anything on it, fuel, arsenal, jamming equipment... I'm really interested in the "JPODS" where they can insert a 4 man team (2 per pod) or recover a downed pilot. The F-35B inserting a 4 man team with full gear that quickly, with the it's speed and range, that would truly be an asset.
There has been a lot of talk (for a while) about what that space could be used for. LM designed a lot of growth into the databus that serves the centerline station (much more than what is needed for just a gun).
However, as of now it cannot be fuel as the centerline station is dry.
Personally, I would leverage the NGJ technology into a one-pod solution that replicates the functions of internal jamming systems. This combined with a later Block's "Cooperative EW" function could lead to some very interesting EW spoofing.
