i like the look...quite futuristic but it can't be practical! i want to see it in person and i'd love to know the real rational behind it. as it is its much more unwieldly than an M-109 or even a French Caesar or Swedish Abott. i just don't get it.
Italy has been using the chassis for 20 years and it's probably more of a make work program to build more kit in Italy instead of importing.
Frankly I'm not a big fan of new self propelled guns not being 155/52. Extended range 155/52 rounds are now getting out to 60km vs 30 to 40km for 155/39.
Most nations buying new self propelled guns are going larger than 155/39. Even Italy in considering this system already operates the PzH2000 and it's 155/52 in the heavy brigades. Using this system to replace the M109 in the medium brigades makes some sense in terms of domestic industry and with Italy's financial issues buying domestic is probably the only way to get new kit.
me likes it, me wants 100, please
ReplyDeleteoh wait we're broke, damm
