Reconnaissance Marines with Battalion
Landing Team 3/1 mount inflatable boats aboard USS Makin Island before
conducting a shoreline reconnaissance here April 4. The team serves as
the ground combat element for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The
unit is deployed as part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, a
U.S. Central Command theater reserve force. The group is providing
support for maritime security operations and theater security
cooperation efforts in the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet area of responsibility.

Thanks for the post. It does not appear to be an over the horizon operation and full daylight too. 3/1 could be training up a lot of new guys.
ReplyDeletei'm wondering if we're not seeing a bit of risk aversion....with the V-22 going down recently you might have commanders exercising a bit more caution during training exercises.

i'm really wondering about beach recon these days though. i would think that with sats, uavs and even the F-35B coming online soon that this might no longer be a mission.
