Lockheed Martin test pilot Bill Gigliotti flew F-35A AF-16 (USAF serial
number 09-5003), on its inaugural flight on 3 May 2012 from NAS Fort
Worth JRB. The aircraft will be assigned to the 33rd Fighter Wing at
Eglin AFB, Florida.
The interesting thing is a first flight while the union is on strike. Probably took the managers 3 times as long, but a milestone is a milestone. And probably part of an incentive award fee.
Hey Spudman - now don't get too excited there, just speaking 'generally'. First flight is a big step towards a delivery DD250 and LockMart getting paid for the delivery. I'd be surprised if there isn't a cumulative numbers of deliveries, that this jet would be part of, as an award fee item.
so when the pilot gets into a fresh new jet, does it have that new jet smell?

ReplyDeleteWhat milestone (a first flight) or a first flight for a new LRIP (I cannot find my LRIP - airframe number list)?
ReplyDeleteGot to see the Marine birds up close and personal at Eglin last Friday. Impressive. Enjoying hearing the sound of freedom.
