I love animation, I loved the book Starship Troopers. I was disapointed by the movie. Rico's Roughnecks the animation didn't disappoint though. And now we have this. Pretty cool and it should come out by Comic Con this fall. Awesome. Oh, check out the movie website here.

There was also a squad level game that drew quite heavily on the books, that was fun, if a little samey
ReplyDeleteThe cartoon was awesome for kids tv :)
quite honestly the cartoon followed the book a helluva lot better than the movies did.
ReplyDeleteThe movie had a completely different tone from the books, on purpose. The novel advocates a society based on nationalism, militarism, and honor. Imagine Prussia set in the future - that is Heinlein's dream. It lambasts both communism for being stupid and democracy for being weak. The movie keeps that militant society, but turns it into a parody. The over-the-top patriotism is turned into a farce on the big screen. The uniforms are Gestapo-like, the architecture is inspired by Albert Speer, etc. What the novel idolizes, the movie forebodes.
ReplyDeleteyou went a bit more serious than i intended but to be quite honest i like your analysis.
ReplyDeletei also like the idea that communism is stupid and in many ways democracy is weak. that's why the US is suppose to be a republic.
i think we're failing at it though and the other forms of democracy, aren't much better. i wonder what we'll see develop in the future.
The book inspired and I'm on the second buy. The spine broke on the first one after 40 years. The movie was a neo-nazi's wet dream
ReplyDeletei don't think that's fair. citizenship was not granted by the color of ones skin....racial bigotry wasn't talked about but i would guess that it wasn't tolerated...it was based on a militarized society where public service in general and military service in particular granted rights. some would say that it was more fair because only those that had a stake in protecting the country past or present should decide the countries fate. i'm far from being a nazi but the society was .... interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe film was written under the name "bug war".
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it was half filmed before someone pointed out it was vaguely like SST.
Although in the book, the bugs had guns :)
