Uhm... I don't grok these traditions but isn't this a sort of honor? Gen. Odierno is not a baseball player, he's a soldier who, if I understand right, managed to reinvent himself in between deployments. Someone has decided that "honoring the troops" also includes / starts from things like this. Yes, the photo is substandard from a PR POV. Yes, people like Marcus Luttrell might a better choice. Still...
