Crazy!

  1. Major problem for national airports, this is the first time I've seen a video from a jet as it's ingesting a seagull.

  3. I love this video. I believe that was a BAE Hawk trainer out of Canada. Notice how well the instructor and student interacted to do everything they could (not much)after they hit the bird right after rotation. In 'Human Factors'terms that's a good indication of a proper "Trans-Cockpit Authority Gradient" and Crew Resource Management. What little smash they had they used to get altitude and in turn the 'time' they didn't have. Don't know if turning was the correct move or not (depends on terrain ahead) but getting air underneath them does wonders for survival rates in ejections.
Contrast that sequence with this AH-64 oldie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pcZXZ9WzBc -- a classic example of a too-steep "Trans-Cockpit Authority Gradient"
    Best part:
"Think I can make it in between there?
    "Nope"
"Oh ye of little faith...Look how big that is"

  4. Can you imagine the look the co-pilot had for the pilot when they stepped out, from the Apache crash. In the video with the bird strike you can here the pilot looking for a clear spot to eject, so his bird won't crash into houses or something.
