Faber just wasn't hungry and this is a sport where you have to be hungry and want it. Barao wanted it and it showed. He had the will to win. Outside of UFC fans he's unknown. He isn't a pretty boy and unlike FABER he doesn't have anything else. For Barao its either succeed here or lose it all...I just imagine for him that this was a do or die situation. That makes you hungry. That makes you work harder than the other guy. That made Faber his victim tonight.
On the undercard the light and featherwieghts continued to impress, but one fight I had my eye on was the Jordan match.
Wow. I just expected more (also) being an LSU fan. He just seemed to be missing the fire in the belly. Being the smaller guy gave his opponent an advantage but not an overwhelming one.
Again. It comes back to the will to win. A little homecoming went on up north but I don't expect anything less from the Canadians and I'm sure White will get that shit sorted out ricky tick quick. Overall. A good fight night.
Round FiveThis was easy to call.
Faber tries to catch the leg of Barao but is unsuccessful. Barao lands a counter left on Faber. Faber is trying to mount offense but he just doesn't seem to be able to hit Barao in a way that hurts him. Faber throwing some jabs but its not the type of offense that's going to set up the knockout he needs. Barao is throwing his hand up and then throwing dynamite with the other - including a nasty left hook. Faber rushes in and mounts some offense but its soon back to Barao dismantling the former poster-boy of the lighter weight classes. Barao connects with a hard right cross and very nearly gets a spinning back kick. I have that 50-45 to Barao on my scorecard. All three judges have similar lopsided scores for an ecstatic Renan Barao who does an hilariously over the top celebration.
Renan Barao defeated Urjiah Faber to become Interim Bantamweight Champion via unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 49-46)

Watching two half-naked guys fight each other in a cage...seems kinda gay. In fact, I once read a survey where male UFC fans were 5 times more likely to be homosexual compared to male fans of other sports.
ReplyDeleteWell, I know I'm not the only reader that long suspected you enjoyed packing fudge, solomon.
No response? Must've hit a bit too close to home, eh?
ReplyDeleteIs that the best you can do Homo_Serenity?? Shouldn't you be cleaning the kitchen with the rest of the women while the men watch fights?
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you get a boner watching men grapple is your problem.
The undercard was great but the actual PPV was pretty weak. Main Event was not bad but after the previous fights were stinkers it would have taken a fight of the year to make people happy.
ReplyDeleteDunno wtf Jordan was thinking. Was it due to another overly cautious Greg Jackson gameplan or did he taste Kongo's power and decide he didn't like it? Either was it was a disappointment.
Lombard disappointed too. Glad I streamed it rather than buying!
appreciate it Patrick. i get tired of dealing with the little punk
ReplyDeleteSee Serenity_Now, that's how men discuss fights.
ReplyDeleteLombard laid an egg. he might want to go back to StrikeForce cause he doesn't look like he can handle the UFC.
ReplyDeleteas far as Johnson is concerned i'm thinking it was poor gameplanning. the guy i watched play football was alot more aggressive than the guy i've watched fight.
have you seen the latest top 25 pound for pound fight list? GSP is down to 3rd! about time. the guy fights like what? once a year if you're lucky?
And when he does fight it's a snooze fest. Condit won't be able to stop the takedown and I really doubt he'll submit GSP.
DeleteI think their fight will look a lot like when Condit fought Rory McDonald, except Condit won't get a miracle finish at the last minute against GSP.
What MMA sites do you frequent? I like www.mmamania.com and of course www.mmafighting.com. Ariel Helwani is the man.
Gonna call it now:
ReplyDeletePatrick = Solomon
Regardless, two men discussing half naked guys fighting...very gay. Very. But Solomon does admire the Spartans a lot...and we all know how they prepared for battle...
Gonna call it now:
DeleteHuron_Senility = Troll
If you going to be a troll at least be more creative than going the gay route. That's on the same level as "my dad can beat up your dad" shit.
