Didn't they just take the hull from FMC for the M8 and add their own turret? Besides the M8 by FMC Cadillac Gage also was in that competition and managed to sell 100 or so of it's Stingray to Thailand. The 82nd would have been well served by either and far better served than just losing it's tank battalion without replacement.
