We know what the ARMA 8x8 turret isn't.

Lance Turret.

Mizrak-30 Turret mounted on an ARMA 8x8.

PENCE CLAW

We'll my google-foo isn't as strong as it should be but I did find out a couple of things.

First the turret mounted on the ARMA 8x8 isn't a version of the LANCE turret.  Second.  The MIZRAK-30 doesn't seem (at least from what I've seen) to be a development version of the LANCE.  Last.  Rheinmetall teamed up with the Turkish company Aselsan to develop the PENCE CLAW.  If you look at it closely the PENCE CLAW does have a couple of design features that show its lineage.  The similarities are probably stronger beneath the skin though.

Research continues.

  1. It seems like the Turks always have FNSS and Otokar build competing models of everything.

Mizrak-30 is Otokar's 30mm RWS while the Claw is FNSS's (jointly produced with Aselsan), though the Claw was rolled out with a 25mm. Supposedly "Claw" is the export name and "Pence" is the name given for domestic sales.

Pence/Claw looks like it's mounted here on the ACV-S, a stretched and widened version of the ACV, which is a FNSS licensed build AIFV, which is of course the IFV version of the M-113.

Supposedly the ACV-S has 30% more internal volume than the ACV and gets up to the 20-22 tonne range. Interesting way to get a Bradley type vehicle off of an existing production line and keep commonality with the ACV installed base.

  2. ACV-S equals a renamed MTVL. color me unimpressed with it. the M-113 was a great vehicle but time has definitely passed it by....or rather its successor is more than adequate for the task. if you look carefully at a Bradley then you can see the design cues from the M-113. different subject but i wonder why the Army just doesn't get it over with a build turret less Bradley's for the M-113 replacement.
