Make note of how they've attached the weapon systems to the fueslage. With them being that close in and with chutes to direct spent brass away from the rotors underneath the airplane this might work. Add to it a smaller rocket launcher and the addition of guided rockets and you have a real assault craft.
Maybe. Maybe it could work.
Im with you on this one Solomon...its a good idea...I hope the USMC and the Air Force come up whit something similar to this...just imagine a V-22 used like a gunship...
ReplyDeleteThey could also simply put caseless ammo and weapons into that pod, and put some firepower without any risk for the engine... Take a bigger version of the HK G11 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_%26_Koch_G11 and put it into a pod !
ReplyDeleteIt may be a good idea, but it's not simple. People have been trying caseless for years without success, the GAU-7 being a notable lightweight aircraft gun failure. It's one of the two ammunition alternatives for the LSAT program but still isn't proven either feasible or economical under battlefield conditions.
Deletethat would be awesome. you could carry a much bigger load of ammo to the fight. you could also make it slightly trainable. i wonder why this hasn't happened.
ReplyDeleteSol, doesnt the V22 have a remote automatic weapon kit

Wonder if you could add a rack for guided 2.75" rockets as well?
