It's no based on the Korean K2, it is a common misconception as Rotem (manufacturer of the Korean K2) is the "guarantor" if you will. If Otokar or any Turkish partners involved in the Project has difficulties in developing certain part of the Tank, Rotem, as per the contract agreement must help providing technologies developed on K2 tank.
So Altay is an original design, but may contain some technologies from the K2 tank. I can tell you right now, the Suspension for sure is borrowed from the K2 tank.
Curious why it reminds you of MBT-70? The Turret isn't too far forward, like the MBT-70, nor did they put the driver in the turret (which just made everyone ill). That's what I most remember from the MBT-70, besides the terrible US 152mm.
