Photos via Militaryphotos.net- the pics below show Israeli Iron Dome missiles enroute, being setup and firing at enemy missiles.
No matter the outcome of the current hostilities between the Israeli's and the Palestinians, one thing is clear. Anti-missile tech has come a long way since Reagan first introduced the world to the Star Wars Concept. What many critics claimed was impossible is now happening many times a day with remarkable success.
My modest proposal is this. The USMC should re-establish anti-air units under the artillery banner and they should be integrated with every Marine-Air Ground Task Force.
Every credible think tank (that means any think tank that does NOT include ex-Marine General Cartwright!) has concluded that our forces will face the threat of ballistic missiles. The Israeli experience has shown that even terrorist organizations can now acquire these weapons.
Its only a matter of time before US forces...even in a humanitarian role, might be targeted with Qassam rockets. Quite honestly criminal organizations have the knowledge necessary to construct these weapons and considering how porous our Southern border is, we could easily see a drug cartel target Federal Buildings in Tuscon, El Paso or even Houston.
C-Ram is inadequate, its time to leverage our investment in the Iron Dome system and make sure that our ground forces are properly equipped. If we don't then the next shock that the Pentagon faces won't be the IED (which our forces are becoming expert at countering, if not defeating), it'll be cheap, mass produced rockets falling like steel rain.

Why build it yourself when you can get the Santa Claus of the world to build it for you.
ReplyDeleteGen. Cartwright, "ex-"USMC? Man, you're pissed. Care to extend?
ReplyDeleteTake care. Ferran, BCN.
PS: Feel free to delete this if you don't want to "poison" your thread. No worries.
oh i can expand on it. that sorry joker was the first of the slime ball generals to get power. he was the assistant chairman and he couldn't find enough ass to kiss. except for his lack of zipper control he was lined up to be chairman and his price of admission? to throw the Marine Corps under the bus at every opportunity he got. i don't care about the poison. in my estimation the sorriest leaders that we've had in the last 50 years of the Marine Corps all came up at about the same time.
DeletePeter Pace. first Marine chairman of the JCS. 100 percent dick sucker. if you wanted to find him all you had to do was look under Rumsfeld's desk.
Cartwright. already explained.
Amos. no balls at all. bends over and kiss the ass of whoever is equal to him. has no integrity and from what i see has no limits. what do i mean by that. every man should have a line that they won't cross no matter how big the payoff. that applies professionally and personally...for the Commandant its one and the same. he has a responsibility to God, his family, the nation AND the Marine Corps. he failed the moral test. he's pussy on a plate. stale pussy at that.
"C-RAM is inadequate" as in "C-RAM alone is not good enough" or as in "C-RAM isn't a good system"?
ReplyDeletehmm. let me restate. C-RAM will not be good enough against future threats. its range limited and it requires too many rounds to achieve a kill against missile threats. against mortars? awesome. against MLRS type threats? not at all.
DeleteI'm not sure there's any money for it but yes it would be a good idea for the US to have a few batteries of this system. Sure the Corps could operate it but I'd rather see a US Army ADA battalion with it, and let the Corps keep more riflemen.
ReplyDeleteAs good as it is, Iron Dome is a very specific solution to a very specific problem unique to Israel. The whole system would need some quite significant modifications for it to be a theater air-defense or even a SHORAD system. As cover for FOB's from rocket fire, yes it would work. But talk of shooting down incoming aircraft is premature. And remember you are still dealing with dumb (often homemade) rockets on standard trajectory here. The system has never experienced guided or low altitude maneuvering threats. Remember also that the Israelis themselves never intended this to be an air-defense system, they have the quite capable Spyder SHORAD to cover that job.
ReplyDeleteThere are no EX-MARINES!!!
ReplyDeleteyeah there are. if you bring discredit to the Marine Corps by treasonous acts, was forced out of the Marines with a bad conduct discharge or court martialed you still carry the title Marine but instead of Marine, or retired Marine or former Marine you get ex-Marine to show that you didn't serve honorably.
