$596 Million dollars worth of C-27's down the drain.

This is almost too painful.

I can't figure out whether its a USAF issue, an Alenia issue or just another example of Afghanistan being one of those problems.

Read the pain and misery here.

  1. I couldn't get the story to pull up, but the video talked about the attack planes. It would be sad if the military's procurement process leads to more instability in Afghanistan.

  2. Subscription only, but Afghanistan doesn't need it, nor could they likely afford it.

  3. Maybe the US government isn't sure that the Afgan AF is "up to scratch" in how to fly, operate and maintain.

There was a report I've read in the past where Mi-8 are flying without any papers and when it arrives, there are suspicious people surrounding it and unloading suspicious cargoes.

An airframe like this could boost the transportation of opium paste worldwide.

  4. I thought the issue was with Alenia not being able to support these former Italian AF G222's? They're not C-27J's. It would be nice, for a change, to figure out who's responsible for throwing away $600 million.

It could also be political. Alenia made a lot of noises about not supporting US C-27J's if sold to a third party. It could be either punishment or pressure for doing such a pathetic job supporting the 20 former Italian AF G222's as well. The Afghan AF will end up with something and I believe we're giving them at least 4 C-130's (I assume used USAF).
