The above photo is causing a huge controversy in France. I'm paraphrasing a French Commander back in Paris, but he stated something to the effect that this Soldiers actions bear no relation to the French Army in Mali.
Wow.
Terrorist put bomb belts on hostages. Terrorist decapitate Westerners. And our (meaning military leadership in the West) gets its panties in a twist because someone wears a skull scarf or writes "fuck you" on a bomb?
People are actively trying to kill each other and yet leadership gets upset about silliness like that?
All might not be lost but we're getting close. Read the story here and here.
"People are actively trying to kill each other and yet leadership gets upset about silliness like that?"
ReplyDeleteYou summed up the whole shit in one sentence. This whole "controversy" has a Monty Python feel to it...

ReplyDeleteCome and work for our team. You'll experience first-hand between "doing the RIGHT thing" vs "doing the thing RIGHT".
Should we prove unable to reverse the anal-cranial interface into which we have contorted ourselves, we would certainly find ourselves in extremis. Hope that's suave enough for all concerned. Semper Fi.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but when did our civilian and military leadership forget that instilling fear in the enemy is hugely important in battle. I don't know about you but if I were some Al Qaeda scum and I saw this soldier across the battlefield from me I'd be shit scared.
ReplyDelete...plus I think that's what Ghost wears in MW2...
Conflict is often reported in terms of numbers of casualties on both sides. The premise is often that killing the enemy is bad and that our own being killed is horrific. The notion that a proper military is organized and trained to impose it's will upon the enemy, and that this often includes killing them as efficiently as possible, seems lost upon the western media. Somehow war should be neat and tidy and not full of blood, hate, fear, and killing. Outrage over that scarf is just a politically correct reaction by those living in fantasy land that want to intervene in troubled lands in an antiseptic manner. Frankly if that scarf scares the enemy it should be mandatory.
ReplyDeleteHey Sol,
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the start of the Iraq invasion (part 2)? There were some US and European reporters who said that Iraq was at a disadvantage ("unfair" was the word) because the US has impose strict sanctions and this is why Iraq was being pummeled (and not being able to FIGHT BACK)?
yeah and i don't get that. it really seems like the whole Western world is living in fantasy. quite honestly the only people that seem to have a grasp on whats important is Spain and the other countries that are in what the US is headed to. i guess pain brings clarity.
