I steered clear of this cause quite honestly I tire of Haynie and her group of apologist in the Commandant's office and USNI Blog polluting my space with their bullshit. Luckily, we all know the truth...it won't work. Already they're using code words to lower standards...gender-norming...developing "real" standards to measure what it takes to be an Infantryman (I guess I should call it Infantry Person) etc...But SOFREP won't swallow the nonsense and are coming out swinging on this subject...a tidbit.
I'm trying to decide a couple of things. I'm ready to check out on the Marine Corps and just observe and not comment.
Its not my Corps anymore and it might be time to establish a timeline of Old Corps and now the reformed/revamped/differentiated New Marine Corps.
I'm just not sure.
One thing I am sure of. Its not the same.
Another favorite… First it was the blacks, then it was the gays, now it is women. No. No, actually it isn’t. This has nothing to do with race or sexual orientation but rather the physiology of the female gender and whether or not they can meet the standards required in the Infantry and SOF. Please stop trying to mix other controversial issues in order to make your case. Lets move on.Women should be allowed in combat! They can do the job! Here, carry this 50 pound rucksack down this road for 12 miles.Well, not me but I know women who can do it!Ever notice how women making these arguments always defer when put on the spot? It is never them who can meet the standards but rather some other idealized woman? Please stop doing this. Shit or get off the pot. I see 18 year old 90-pound girls at college who think it is a great idea to put women in the front lines. Ante up is what I say. You’ve got no idea.Other countries have women in combat positions!Well, not really. Everyone likes to cite Israel but their experiment with women in the Infantry is considered a failure. Furthermore, we are the US of A. We have the best military in the world. No offense to Israel or any of our other allies but we don’t need to try to replicate conscription Armies around the world.Read it all here.

Sol, It's the same Corps.
ReplyDeleteAt one time it was drugs and racism with race riots right on base CLNC and crime? The area around the bus station into town was called the combat zone never wander that way alone is what you did, go with at least three and even then you might get mugged.
Talk back and the shadows of mutiny in every man not a lifer triple that in a short timer.
Field training? The BAS filled up with one particular type of Marine, the malingering mob of constant Dap.
Every generation of Marines have had the same moment where they think to themselves, "this ain't the way Chesty said it should be" That's when you have become one of the Old corps.
The Old Corps when I served was the 1965 to 1968 with the relics of Korea still about as the Mythical Corps of Basilone and Lt Hawk fame who we regard as Gods of war incarnate! The Commanding General for instance of P.I. when I was there circa 70's was a man called Peatross, who while a Butter Bar Lt went ashore with Carlson's raiders at Makin.
But it's always the immortal Corps which stays the same while warfare and politics evolve.
The Marines started as snipers and sharpshooters who fought from the ships fighting tops and as warfare evolve the Marines adapted, evolved and overcame the Grunts in those fighting tops were the ultimate Old Corps, leather collar and all.
God I hope you're right! God knows I do. but all this? lets hit the last year...gays in the military, women in the infantry, regular Marine Corps under siege by its own creation MARSOC and now a looming defense cut to fund welfare programs?
ReplyDeleteeven the best organizations have crumbled under less and I really see this as a turning point. want to read something that will make your stomach turn? go over to USNI Blog and read the writings of a female Marine Officer by the name Haynie.
that "thing" has a me, me, me, me, me attitude that is just WRONG! and the sad thing is that many are going along with her craziness. and don't tell me that Obama doesn't realize what he's doing! he's trying to destroy the Marine Corps as we know it. he reads the Medal of Honor citations and knows that he would never send his daughters into the Infantry meat grinder and yet some female will be talked into it.
you know the real deal. guys leave the service and suffer knee and back pain for the rest of their lives because of the wear and tear. imagine what it will do to a woman? either she'll be able to keep up on the runs cause she's 98 pounds or she'll break on humps because of the weight of the packs...and other guys will have to carry her load! its just wrong.
i hope you're right but my faith is fading fast.
Zebra. I reread your remark about 6 times tonight and i hear ya when you say things are bad but during all the previous bad times i don't think it was done on purpose. now it seems like he knows EXACTLY what he's doing and people inside the Marine Corps that know better aren't saying anything and those in the Marine Corps that are in favor know that it will change the Corps but are too selfish to give a shit. i hope you're right but it sure looks cloudy as hell.
ReplyDeleteLifting the ban on women in combat is completely different than the other changes and this will change the Corps. You mentioned old and new Marine Corps or would that be legacy and neo? I'm of the opinion that all female units be created - why integrate men and women in front line combat units. If the numbers are there have all female platoons and companies. I have not read the USNI blog because I'm sure it will make me want to eat my gun.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of world war two the thinking in Washington was, the Atomic battlefield made amphibious operations obsolete and the Army felt like it's experience in beach landings in the pacific proved the Army could do the job D-Day was mentioned several times as a fact. general Macarthur led the fight to disband and do away with the Marine Corps.
DeleteThen the Korean war started, the units shipped in first were expeditionary and Marines. the see saw war produced a need to land an amphibious force at a place called Inchon, the high tides and low tides made the operation difficult The marines prevailed and turned the tide of battle not just for Korea but for the continued life of the Corps.
The seperate female and male ground combat units is the best idea but it's of course considered a segregated agenda, much like the separate white and black units, and will not be used, not PC enough.
What will stop this integration will be actual women infantry failing miserably due to the ruggedness of the training and the day to day life as a Marine grunt, women will drop out enmasse reality and physics will become more important the being a Co-ed and politically and gender equal correct infantry.
Physically women cannot hump, nor haul the gear that a male can that is reality and that will become the knowledge gained at the price of many broken women's bodies, rules and regulations will be re-written in blood and this feminist pipe dream will be forgotten. Marines will die because of this bullshit both men and women but in the end, as with the Israeli's the women will go back to jobs they can do and do well.
