A few things...
*IDEX isn't being covered by ANY major defense news source here in the US. Pity.
*Streit Group is working hard to become a player in the armored vehicle market. First their Jaguar MRAP type vehicle and now this? Impressive.
The sequester has everyone's attention in the US but the rest of the world still spins. From the overseas coverage that I've seen IDEX is bigger than ever and major US firms ARE in attendance.
What has to be asked is why the stealth participation by defense firms? Why the lack of coverage by US defense media?
What is the game?
well, for one, it is a foreign expo, so almost none of the gear there is marketed to the West. It is mostly for the Arab oil states, Jordan, and the rich North African states, and some Southeast Asian nations.
ReplyDeleteFor instance, the USA defense market is essentially closed to any non-US firm, unless you join up with a US company and produce the product in the states.
that's does not mesh with historical facts. in the past the US firms were all over this expo. the fact that the US market is closed to foreign firms is also not true. take the MPC contest. every one of those vehicle to include the General Dynamics offering is of foreign design. so while what you're saying sounds good on the surface a peek underneath reveals something completely different.
