The US Army has experimented with it, but now is the time to go full bore.
I've posted this before but the first person to actually come out online and suggest it was your friend and mine, Mike Sparks. Say what you like about the guy but some of his ideas were truly ahead of their time.
One thing I haven't been able to find out is why the Army hasn't gone ahead and adopted this camo scheme for their helicopters. Any infrared suppression found in the green paint surely is applicable to the grey. Its time to make the switch.
Grey is the new black. For helicopters it makes sense because if you're Terry Taliban, you can spot that green dot flying around AND you don't have to worry about Mi-24s shooting you out of the sky.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like everybody is going grey especially in clothing and gear. LBT has MAS Grey, Arcteryx has Wolf, Kryptek has Typhon.
i agree with everything you said except for worrying about Mi-24's. AH-64's bring pain. OH-58's bring MUCH pain. and to be honest they don't engage when air support is around....which might be a reason why the Army hasn't switched which i never considered. like you said they can see those green dots flying around and if they were planning on ambushing a convoy or FOB they'd reconsider in a heartbeat.
