Denmark's Armored Personnel Carrier Contest.

A new variant of our CV90 Armadillo has been delivered to Denmark to undergo competitive evaluation. With its superior performance and ability to protect our troops now, and well into the future, this vehicle proves to be a low-risk solution for long-term sustainment.
I just got back and this is what I found.

Trust me, I'm scrambling to try and find out what modifications have been done for the contest in Denmark and as soon as I know so will you.

I do know that the raised super structure appears fixed, its missing the remote weapon stations/shot detection/anti-IED/smoke-grenade launchers that were on the previous version.

It also seems to have increased ground clearance (another anti-IED feature?).  I like this vehicle.

  1. Looks like another possible contender for AMPV.

  2. Two wild guesses:

    1. The ground clearance appears increased because of the angle of the photo and this version being fitted with the shorter 'above the road wheels' skirts instead of the longer 'down over the road wheels' skirts that seem to more common.

    2. We could be looking at either a C&C or an ambulance version where a larger, non-rotating 'pod' has been dropped on to the top, using the standard turret opening. This would allow a lot of gear to be moved up into the 'pod', freeing room and raising headroom in the main compartment. Either one of these roles would help explain the lack of armament as well. By using a 'pod', you minimize development cost and retain the ability, long term, to convert it to a turreted version if your needs shift.

It's just hard for me to see how a Denmark buy could be big enough, or have enough cash behind it, to generate major modifications.

    1. This is offered in the Danish Program. The Armadillo has an exchangeable roof that make it possible to change roll of the vehicle.

This vehicle would be the right for the US, as this vehicle has a development potential that exceeds all other vehicles.

  3. Modifications cost more in the US as mayor US defence contactors only act as 'system integrators'specialised in goldplating stuff ,they mostly take a already well developed foreign system and add lobyists, senators and generals to payroll. In Europe many of these modifications are in house projects that that require relatively small investment.
