Thanks Defesa Global Blogspot for the heads up!
This is another product that's being introduced at LAAD in Brazil. Seems like Rafael is trying to push back against Elbits success with a revamped 30MM low profile RWS. Rafael better hope it sells....the Elbit is gaining market share and is becoming the defacto RWS for guns larger than 25mm.

When our military purchashed Patria AMV with Elbit 12.7/40mm RWS ,RWS failed miserably on functionality and accuracy tests in cold weather(-30°C) so Patria had to replace them with much more expensive Kongsberg M151Protecor RWS
ReplyDelete*intresting fact when testing Patria AMV(HAVOC 8x8) and General Dynamics PandurII old BRDM2 was used as benchmark for offroad capability and suprisingly beat both 8x8s
i find that hard to believe. both the Havoc and the Pandur II are modern APC's that benefit from modern suspension systems...let me fact check that one.

ReplyDeleteI was suprised to but BRDM2 was chosen as a benchmark even tough we had much more modern Pandur 6x6 in service as BRDM2 is more of a offroader ,Patria AMV was critisized for its offroad capability due to it having a chassis subframe as opposed to load bearing body, chassis adds 2 tons of 'dead' weight and requires bigger wheels to compensate offroad preformance loss, vehicle profile is higher both because of the subframe and bigger wheels, vehicle floats lower in water has higher sillhuete, on the other hand we have seen fatigue cracks on Pandur 6x6 monobody as it has no chassis armored hull has to take the suspension loads when traversing rough terrain wehicle bends and twists and armor plate is not the most elastic of steels so fatigue cracks are real posibility.Bonus to chassis subframe design is better mine protection options
ReplyDeleteThis RWS and the Namer = GCV killer
ReplyDeletethey can always make the Namer chassis lighter, so the Army can't whine about weight.
i'm not sure. they're pushing the army on costs and i'm still leaning toward an upgraded Bradley getting the call.
DeleteSolomon, how many units larger than 25 mm RWS ELBIT has delivered yet? I just want to have an idea of what it is market share gap between RAFAEL and ELBIT right now. As far as I know, Elbit has delivered very few (less than 10)if any to the Brazilian Army.
ReplyDeletewell i know the CZECH Army has them on their vehicles, and i believe another European Army uses them....when it comes to big RWS systems the market is still new but it seems like ELBIT has the lead from my eyeball test.
