A detachment of Romans was cut off in a waterless place. The enemy commander demanded their surrender. The Romans refused.
"You are surrounded," declared the enemy captain in exasperation. "You have neither food nor water. You have no choice but to surrender!"
The Roman commander replied, "No choice? Then have you taken away as well the option to die with honor?"

Roman Empire, greatest civilization that ever lived. Proud to be an Italian.
ReplyDeleteWe are not even half way into the life of the Republic and are already falling apart.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, yep. Oh how history repeats itself no matter what we do, its really sad.
DeleteActually Romans were efficient criminals which stole all the richnesses of its empire. They had to pay a huge Price for dominating the Iberian penÃnsula, and they achieved its domination 200 years after their first invasión, only because since thousands years ago, Iberians and its descendants are not able to cooperate faithfully.
ReplyDeleteBut in a lot of oppidum (fortified villages), Iberians prefer to commit collective suicide instead to surrender to the Roman invaders. Once and again they died until the last man, after fighting always against numerous foes.
