BAE Fighter Jet Take-Off Platform

Note:  They keep putting 'em out and as long as they're cool, I'll keep posting 'em!

  1. 56 engines? I know it was just a paper project and engines weren't that powerful back then but to even propose using something as labour/resource intensive as this is a bit ridiculous.
Even so, I still would have loved to see it at an airshow. The noise would have been deafening.

    1. ya know people always make note of the large nuimber of engines required to make projects like this work but i'm always amazed at the inventiveness of these designers from days long ago.

i'd love for someone to go back and just draw up the same applications with todays tech and see what we'd get. my classic example is the XCH-142A. it was almost c-130 sized vertical take off and land transport that if flown with todays engines would be a winner like nothing else. it could probably compete with the CH-53K (which i love) and could truly revolutionize aviation....the same could be said for probably hundreds of these old designs. maybe not this one but definitely others.

    2. They should put that Hercules that was modified for the rescue of the Iranian hostages into production. XFC-130H had 30 rockets positioned around the fuselage for take off and landing. You could land that sucker on an aircraft carrier or a football field. Wanting to be on the plane is a different story.
