Geez. 19 Firefighters Killed.

Wow.  Terrible news.  I know firefighters list their fire companies as numbering something like 6 or so men...so to lose almost 20 must be like losing an entire fire battalion.

I'm not quick to show sympathy but my heart goes out to these guys and their families.  God Bless.

  1. Sounds like it was a hotshot crew, which is a wildland firefighting unit. I heard 1 member survived out of the 20 person crew.

A fire company is the crew attached to a fire truck. The most common types are engines(often called pumpers), ladders (often called trucks), or rescues (sometimes called squads, although some depts refer to their ambulances as rescues or squads). Most city fire companies have 3-4 members, unless they are NY, Chicago, or LA, which run 5-6. Usually 5-9 companies in a battalion.
