ReplyDeletefucking awesome leader. Chesty or Mattis would have Marines ready to run through brick walls for them...no doubt no hesitation. Chesty said do it...Mattis said do it and that's all it would take.
ReplyDeleteWonder why? because everyone knew that (1) they would have your back if sugar turned to shit...and (2) they would never waste your efforts, never second guess your actions.
these guys were pure dee studs. we need their type of leadership today.
I was fortunate enough to have met Chesty a few times in 1967 and 1968. Marine Barracks at NWS Yorktown, VA had the closest PX to where he retired.
