Despite it's present virtual uselessness I can't help but think it looks badass. Too bad they didn't buy the multinational variant which is armed to the teeth (though would have probably made a Burke look cheap). I keep hoping these LCS ships are like the Spruance class when it first came out. To look at it the Spruances had two 5" guns and a Sea Sparrow launcher on a cruiser-sized hull. That's it. By the time they retired them a lot of them had added 2 Phalanxs, a 61-cell VLS, 8 Harpoon launchers, and a Sea RAM. (They were also planned from the get-go to get the 8" Mk71 gun in place of the forward Mk45 but that program was cancelled.)
The LCS is still a JOKE and a disaster no matter what the US Navy says. In my opinion, the LCS seriously needs to be canceled and Cut from the budget. No amount of lipstick in the universe would fix that dead horse.
Hopefully, the LCS will be capped at 16 and will be used as better armed minesweepers.
Then the Navy can order a 4000 ton frigate with a locked design with a 76 out 127mm gun, Mk. 41 VLS cells, remote auto cannon, and a phalanx system...... Someday
I'm hoping the LCS gets's canceled, and we can move to a REAL frigate and a Real Corvette. The LCS is a sick joke and the taxpayers are being robbed and screwed over.
