The Amos issue.

Its been about 12 hours since I first read about Amos using undue command influence with regards to several Marines.

My question is simple.

Why haven't we heard any commentary on the issue?  No, I'm not talking about the mainstream media.  They're always late to real issues with the military and unless it involves women or homosexuals they really don't care.

No.  I'm talking about the thought centers.  US Navy Institute Blog, Proceedings, Sea Power and the Marine Gazette.

Nothing.  Nada.  What is tantalizing is that there is a way that what Amos did do is legal.  Correction, its still illegal and as Commandant, he should have had the courage and integrity to refuse, but if he was ordered by the President that these Marines "would fry" then he'd at least have an explanation...not an excuse (this is inexcusable) but he would at least be able to explain why he committed the act.

I'll wait with baited breath for Monday to arrive and hope that the news shops have caught up to the fact that we have at the very least a low grade scandal in the Commandant's office.

Side Note:  As bad as this is, I'm pleased to hear it.  My biggest fear is was that Obama was going to renominate Amos for another term as Commandant.  This little drama should put a kibosh on those plans.  THANK GOD!

Side Note 1:  This should effectively muzzle the biggest supporter of the F-35 within the Pentagon (notice I said supporter as in individual, not service...Marine Land is angry about quite a few things...the high cost of the F-35 and how its eating the budget is just one of those issues).  I don't know what effect that will have on the program but personal survival, not the survival of an airplane is now his main focus.  This bit of news might have ramifications beyond the Marine Corps.

    1. well aware and it is part of the story. Amos lied and said that the nomination was so important that he had to take Walhauser off the case with the Marines. its really just that simple. you can't spin it twist it massage or act like i missed something here.

    2. You know where I stand on the actions of Amos, and what should happen.

McCain took General Dempsey to task, and threatened to block his nomination over much less.

    3. i've got to work on internet conversation protocols.

yes i'm well aware of your stand on Amos. you were early to state that he crossed the line. i was aiming that at others that would come along and read the comments and seek to twist his behavior to something that might be appropriate.

that was suppose to be my early rebuttal to a particular troll that is Amos' number one fan

  3. It has been a slow spiral downwards where lots of people are complicit, the media, the elite, politicians, Wall Street,etc... and the average American that just wants to watch soaps, reality shows, football,etc...they have discounted from the world and it isn't surprising that more motivated, intelligent people take advantage of them and put forward their own agendas. If you don't have one, some one will fill in the blanks for you...

We must live in different Marine Lands. I also find it funny that now you are against something-- so is Marine land. Or were you just ignoring Marine land when you so strongly advocated the F-35? Its so confusing. When Sol is for something "everyone knows" its a great idea, and when Sol is against something "Marine land" is against it too.

    funny funny

    1. uh no.

and either i'm not explaining myself properly or you're purposefully twisting my words. the point is simple. Marine Land is pissed. you don't think so. prance on over and see what happens. second, if you don't know that there is seething anger then you really are stuck in a cocoon sucking on amos' dick.

the only thing funny is that you're trying so hard to protect amos because you realize that once daddy is gone, then so is your gravy train.

i would pay good money to know what your connection is to the F-35 program and the Commandant's office is. i'm guessing retired, contractor type ------briefings to the pentagon, occasionally gets invited over to mixers after the sunset parades put on by 8th and I that people believe Marines actually like performing at but is really a pain in the ass.

yeah you have the Tun Tavern Tango down to a science and believe that Quantico, 8th and I and surrounding areas is the real Marine Corps.

you also have the scent of someone who homesteaded there for a while ...more politician than Marine but you love the title because it makes you feel superior at the little cocktail parties....hmmmmm.....i'm reading a person that fancies himself a cultured warrior...a new breed that has to deal with knuckle dragging neanderthals that just don't understand.

      am i right?????

  5. Wow not even close.

In case you hadn't noticed I'm not defending Amos on this.

"i would pay good money to know what your connection is to the F-35 program"

Likewise, you spent years advocating the F-35 as the best aircraft for the USMC, on this very blog for years. Then you suddenly did a 180. Paychecks stop?

    2. Sol, What is the current Marine Corps budget for aviation? What was it before the F-35. What was the difference? Can you give me an actual no shit number for any of this?

how can you compare costs without numbers Sol?

Has the F-35 even exceeded what the Marine Air Wing normally spends every FY?

basic questions you refuse to answer. Why? because you don't know what you are talking about. So its easier to try and guess where your posters served rather than do actual research.
