  1. All that square area / real estate that makes up the turret roof: not always a good thing.

    1. yeah i hear ya but it appears thats how things are evolving. the Abrams, especially the Leopard EVO and 2A7 and even the Challenger all have those separate blast modules (don't know what else to call them) that increase area. my guess is that the designer is trying to show a tank with 152mm gun and this is what he wound up with.

    2. Turret size is mainly driven by the size of the weapon, and its breech, and also the ammo carried.
Chally has a relatively small turret die to the two piece ammo for rifled 120mm gun.
Leopard and Abrams are larger due to one piece ammo for smoothbore main weapon.

  2. I think to fit a 152mm gun without making the tank proportionally larger would require some innovative redesign to the layout of the whole tank. Just scaling up a conventional turret to hold a gun 25% bigger than the typical 120/125mm gun would result in a tank too large to be easily supported by existing logistic equipment and transportation infrastructure.
