Japan to hold launching ceremony of latest aircraft carrier at Yokohama

The naming and launching ceremony of latest aircraft carrier-class destroyer “22DDH” will be held at Yokohama on Aug. 6, 2013. “22DDH" is a light aircraft carrier under the name of building "helicopter carrier". It's Japan's new generation helicopter destroyer. The Japanese helicopter carrier can be seen at the pictures.

Its here.

The long awaited 22DDH is finally about to hit the water.  Somewhere Chinese leaders are shudering.  Japan is slowly but surely militarizing.

Won't it be ironic, if Japan becomes a major military power again all because China misplayed its hand?  Remember, while we're seeing countries unite in opposition to China, they also have age old beef between them.  S. Korean hates Japan.  Japan hates Vietnam.  Vietnam hates S. Korea.  Etc.

The guy sitting on the outside looking out his window at a neighborhood thats becoming dangerous is Australia.  Militarily they are outclassed by the S. Koreans, Japanese and maybe even Singapore.  Which is why I expect to see a major US Joint Base established there soon.

    1. probably but it ignores a couple of things that are necessary for independent operation of these ships in a true aircraft carrier role. AEW and refueling planes. additionally unless they were built with F-35B operations from the start then they'll need to have the upper deck redone to handle the jet blast.

i'm really betting that we see a dedicated from scratch aircraft carrier soon.

    2. It would surprise me if you hear news 10 to 15 yrs down the road that Japan get's F-35B's, Osprey's and even attack, ASW & ASUW helicopters. That carrier would be perfect for any country that want's an ASW, ASUW and Attack helicopter.

  3. The issue of Japan being a military power again has to do with economics. With a debt to GDP ratio of over 200%, Japan is on the wrong side of an arms race. Simply, China has more money.

  4. The US needs to be the mediator among allies to build an alliance. It has to be represent an impartial party and seek compromise and resolution of issue so S. Korea and Japan can be allies, Australia and Indonesia, etc.

Australia is thinking about making the Japanese Soryu it's next submarine.

It makes since. The Combat System for the Collins class is considered excellent. The propulsion system for the Soryu is considered excellent. It would be a good trade-off for both.

  5. What Japan needs to do is rally their people and vote out the US Military. Japan is a fine country and doesn't need the US Imperialists on their soil. With that said, South Korea needs to join in as well.
